2-Butene-1,4-diol, cis-isomer, 97%

2-butene-1,4-diol can be obtained by reduction of 2-butyne-1,4-diol or by high-pressure synthesis from acetylene and formaldehyde. Only cis -2-butene-1,4-diol is formed during the preparation from but-2-in -1,4-diol.

2-butene-1,4-diol is a low-volatility, very fatal, colorless to yellowish odorless liquid, which is miscible with water.

2-butene-1,4-diol is used for the production of vitamin B6 , maleic acid , endosulfan , plasticizers and tetrahydrofuran.
